Sicily is a home to various styles of art coming from different regions, as Sicily has always had a mediating role between a number of different cultures. When we think about the art and culture in Sicily, we think about the great Greek temples and theaters as well as Byzantine, Arab and Norman monuments. Therefore, Sicily is one of the best places in Europe to come to improve your skills in arts and look for inspiration in this magical region.

Target Group – Teachers (working in the field of art, handicrafts etc.), artists, architects.

Objectives – The training will help the participants to expand their knowledge of the Sicilian art and culture, learn new techniques that they could apply when creating their own art and also look for inspiration in beautiful surrounding of Sicily. An important part of the training course in is the knowledge shared by local professional artists successfully working in the field. This training will also expand participants’ career opportunities, as they will bring home experience and knowledge from abroad that will make them more prospective employees not only in their home country but also internationally.

Methodology – During the course, a combination of seminars and interactive tasks (creating works of art individually and in groups, participation in workshops and discussions) will take place. Active and non-formal learning strategies will be applied in order to improve the knowledge of all participants. Active involvement helps to identify the interests as well as weak and strong sides of the group.

The training course will consist of the following activities:

  • Professional seminars will be conducted by recognized experts in the field. The major focus will be put on the Sicilian architecture, sculpture and photography;
  • Participants will attend meetings and round table discussions with professional local artists;
  • Non-formal education: informal discussions among the participants and recognized artists, sharing of personal experience during informal coffee breaks, lunches, dinners, an opportunity to observe the work of professionals in the informal environment.

Detailed Description – Participants will be introduced to the various types of art and to Sicilian culture, and have an opportunity to create their own works of art (they will have a chance to use various techniques based on their field of interests). The most of the activities will be held in the wonderful and magical Jalari Parco Museum, where the participants will be able to see the works of art displayed in the park and look for inspiration for creating their personal pieces of art.
